Cardiac Ultrasound
Echocardiogram "ECHO"
An echocardiogram is a type of ultrasound test that uses high-pitched sound waves to produce an image of the heart.
Purpose
- Check the overall function of the heart
- Evaluate heart thickness and motion as well as the structure and function of heart valves
- Help identify areas of poor blood flow in the heart
- Identify areas of heart muscle that are not contracting normally
- Help detect blood clots
- Check for evidence of heart failure
- Evaluate the heart valves for abnormalities
Carotid Doppler
Carotid doppler measures the amount of blood flow in the carotid arteries, which are the two major arteries on each side of the neck that carry blood to the brain.
Purpose
- Used to evaluate patients who have a history of stroke or are believed to be at a high risk
- Show the amount of blood flow and how fast it travels through the arteries
- Transischemic Attack (TIA)
- Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA)
- Carotid Bruit
Venous Doppler
Doppler of the Veins of the lower extremity.
Purpose
- Detects blood clots (R/O DVT)
- Swelling and pain
- Edema (Water Retention)
Arterial Doppler
Doppler of the Arteries of the lower extremity.
Purpose
- Helps monitor the blood flow and circulation in the legs
- Ulceration
- Discoloration and pain
